SIFE

Are you ready to make a difference?

 

We are Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), a team of committed students all studying at the Rijksuniversiteit of Groningen. We have a heart for underprivileged groups in society. SIFE is an international non-profit organisation, active in over 40 countries. A SIFE team stimulates underprivileged individuals and groups in order for them to take back control over their lives, and explore what they are capable of. In order to reach this, we work together with entrepreneurs and businesses. In this way we can create original projects that create opportunities for these groups. The SIFE team here in Groningen is active in 2 national and 1 international project.

The Find Your Balance (FYB) project team provides workshops on financial literacy to high-school students. By passing on our first-hand experiences as university students we create awareness about the risks of unreasonably high debt and pass on knowledge about responsible spending behaviour. The project team is working in cooperation with a foundation that brings together public organizations, NGOs, banks, and multinational corporations to enhance financial literacy and financial independence among young people in The Netherlands.

The Take Your Chance (TYC) project team provides refugees in the refugee center in Delfzijl with support, knowledge and skills to secure an independent future for themselves and their families in The Netherlands. The team offers a series of interactive workshops (in three modules: work, education, government support) and a coaching program for more individual support.

WanaZiwi is our international project. The project team is supporting a group of deaf women in Tanzania in setting up their own business. So far the team has raised a total of about €16.000 to support the project. During the summer the first round of workshops were given to the Tanzanian women. At the moment, a sewing facility is being built in Tanzania and the first products are being produced as we speak.          

If you are participating in our program there are more benefits than just working in one of our projects. Once every 2 weeks we have workshops with the whole team. These can be about project management, or social entrepreneurship. Next to this SIFE the Netherlands organises the SIFE social entrepreneurship academy. These programs teach you for instance about commercial skills. Furthermore SIFE the Netherlands organises an annual conference in which you are able to meet a lot of important business people, and the National Competition. In the national competition our team will battle against all SIFE teams in Netherlands to see which team has the best projects.

From all these activities you will benefit personally. You get a chance to develop your personal skills and will get to know a lot of nice and inspiring people.
