Orange House

It is perhaps more accurate to describe the Orange house as a modern apartment complex as it is made up of 75 independent units (or studios). This means that every student who lives there has a large room/kitchen as well as a private toilet and shower. The entrances of the studios are outside, so there is no inside corridors or common rooms. It is located North-East of the city centre.

The first impression that we got during our visit to the Orange House was that the Studios are spacy and comfortable. Everything looked and felt very new, and it really is.

What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of Orange House in your opinion?

 You don’t have to share things like the kitchen, toilets, shower etc. and it’s a new building – 2.5 years old. Everything is new and fresh. You are in the city centre with the bike in 7 minutes, 15 minutes to Zernike. The bus is a two minute walk from the Orange House. You can go everywhere with the bus.

Some students here regret it that there is no common room. We don’t have washing machines, but it is a two minute walk to the launderette. Another detail about the Orange House is that if you want to have internet in your room, you have to take care of it yourself. You have to wait like 2 weeks before internet is working.

Is the utilities offered/price ratio worth it in Orange House?

 Yes absolutely, you have a beautiful studio with everything for yourself. It’s a beautiful construction. There is air-condition included.

What makes Orange House “special”?

 Everything is new and you have everything for yourself. We don’t have common rooms, but the atmosphere is very good in the Orange House.

How is the overall social atmosphere in Orange House?

 It’s very good; almost everybody comes alone in the Orange House. Since they don’t know people, they search for each other and make new friends. All the students are open to everybody and quickly make new friends. Also you have a lot of privacy, because you have your studio.

What advice would you give to the prospective international students?

The Orange House is: good social atmosphere, privacy, everything for yourself, everything new and fresh, very good studio.
