Melkweg/Kraneweg
The Melkweg/Kraneweg student house is conveniently situated at just a few minutes walking distance from the city centre and close to a nice park. It takes no more than 15 minutes cycling to get to Zernike. It is a relatively small student house, providing accommodation to 46 international students. In the video below you can see what some of the residents of Melkweg/Kraneweg had to say about their experience there.
Here is what student manager Christian Garrard told us about the student house:
Describe Melkwegin 3 words.
Cosy and familiar
What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of Melkwegin your opinion?
Some advantages are that the house is very close to the city centre and being such as a small house, people get to know each other well. Some disadvantages are that there is no common room and some kitchens are too small.
Is the utilities offered/price ratio worth it in Melkweg?
Yes.
What makes Melkweg“special”?
The house is very close to the city centre and because of its size people get to know each other very well.
How is the overall social atmosphere in Melkweg?
Because of the way the house is built you can live both socially or not depending on your situation. When you want to party it’s easy to find people who want to party as well, and when you want to concentrate on studying then there will always be sections of the house that are quite enough to do so.
Why would a prospective FEB international student choose Melkwegand not another student house?
If you study law or arts at the RuG then you have lectures in the city centre which is only 5 minutes away.
What advice would you give to the prospective international students?
Don’t bother bringing an umbrella, the wind will destroy it anyway.
