Martini House
The Martinihouse is one of the relatively small student houses in Groningen with capacity for 66 international students. It is located to the south-west of the city center.
It was a pleasure to meet some new international students there, as well as the student manager - Judith Nuijens, who was very helpful and also said a few words to the camera together with the students. This is how she responded to some of our questions:
Describe Martinihouse in 3 words.
Multicultural, cosy and surprising
What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of Martinihouse in your opinion?
Every year we get a new group of students who become friends and are very close to each other. The student house is close to a little shopping mall with all shops that you need. Another advantage is that your have your private facilities.
A disadvantage is that the Martinihouse is not close to Zernike.
Is the utilities offered/price ratio worth it in Martinihouse?
Yes definitely. There are not many student houses in Groningen that have private facilities and (internet, gas, electricity etc included) for this price. Rooms are furnished and Housing Office provides toilet paper, dishwashing liquids etc.
What makes Martinihouse “special”?
I always say that Martinihouse is special because every year you see that a sort of group feeling emerges. Maybe that is because this house is a little further away from the city center, students stay in the house often together and they really get to know each other very well. There are international dinners and students gather often in the common room to play table tennis or darts or watch television together. They also go together on excursions. In Martinihouse you never feel alone.
Why would a prospective FEB international student choose Martinihouse and not other student house?
A prospective FEB student should choose Martinihouse because in my opinion it is the cosiest international studenthouse. Moreover students have their own room (apart from 2 shared rooms) with private facilities, which also gives you some privacy.
What advice would you give to the prospective international students?
Come to Groningen and live your dream together with students from all over the globe!
