Exam Period

“It is Sunday morning, 10 o’clock. Streets are deserted and the city experiences a silence like rarely on other moments. No one seems to be up yet when you cycle alone with your bike through the abandoned streets. Then you turn to the Broerstraat and it seems as if the whole student population has been gathered for a party, and as if it is the only street with life”. If that happens to you, you can be sure of one thing: You haven’t missed the greatest event of the year, no, its Exam period, and students are fighting to get a spot in the university library. The exam period takes place four times a year and even students who like to procrastinate, can’t escape. Its those times of the year, where books and articles need to be explored, and you complain about teachers wanting you to study hard, even though you would prefer going out and chilling with your friends.

To make this time a little bit more enjoyable, in the following there will be presented a selection of places where you could go during the exam period to take a break.

Bagels and Beans is a nice place where you can get good coffee, and a nice bagel with various different stuffings. It is very close to the library (Located in the Zwanestraat) and due to the warm and nice atmosphere always worth a visit.

La Place is the place to go if you want to have delicious fresh-made juices or a nice self-made piece of pie. If you are sitting upstairs, you have a nice overview about what happens down on the street. It is located at the Grote Markt.

Mr Mofongo is located directly at the opposite of the library and known for snacks and other meals. It could probably sweeten your lunch-break if you don’t want to buy the products offered in the canteen.

As you might have noticed there are various other great locations, all located in the city centre of Groningen. Remember, studying is important but taking a break once in a while is necessary to be able to focus, as well. Enjoy
