The annual event to celebrate the opening of the new academic year in the Faculty of Economics and Business took place on Thursday the 30th of September. The ceremony was jointly organized by the faculty and the student organisation of the faculty – EBF.
The event was honoured by the dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business – Prof. Dr. Elmer Sterken, vice-dean Prof. Dr. Janka Stoker and many lecturers. The annual awards for ‘Lecturer of the Year’, ‘Freshman of the Year’ and ‘Thesis of the Year’ were distributed by Prof. Dr. Janka Stoker.
This year’s opening of the academic year will be remembered with the outstanding speakers and interesting topics, which were within the theme of the two-day EBF Conference – The (R)evolution of Powers.
The strategic focus on quality
Recently, both the Board of the University and our Faculty of Economics and Business have published their strategic plans. On March 12th there will be a presentation of the plans by RUG-President Sibrand Poppema and myself in the Plaza. Focus point in both plans is the improvement of quality of education and research. The human factor is the essential determinant of productivity in our organization. It is no surprise that the improvement of the quality of staff and students is the core of both strategic plans.
