Stockholm Old Town

Posted by on 13 Nov, 2011 in All, Current students, Exchange in Uppsala, Study abroad | 0 comments

Gamla Stan is the old town of Stockholm, surrounded by water and located in the heart of today’s Stockholm. It is preserved with its old architecture, narrow streets and historic buildings. Indeed a very beautiful place to explore and top destination for most tourists. The Royal Palace is also located within Gamla Stan. {besps}U10{/besps}

Skansen

Posted by on 13 Nov, 2011 in All, Exchange in Uppsala, Study abroad | 0 comments

Skansen is combination of a park, a museum and a zoo – a perfect outdoor exhibition of Swedish history and cultural heritage in a simulation of a natural setting. It’s a great place to spent the day and an even better place to see the sunset over Stockholm! Great fun! {besps}U11{/besps} [oqeygallery id=1]

As an exchange student, wherever you go, you would want to make sure that you visit all the interesting places around. For me, Stockholm was definitely on top of the list being just a 40 minute train ride away from Uppsala. This beautiful city had be coming back again and again as there are so many things to see! Here are some snaps from my trip! In the next articles I will show some of the places that I enjoyed the most.

Nightlife in Uppsala

In a student town like Uppsala, the nightlife needs no advertising. One thing that is special is that if you want to party where all other students do, you should become a member of one of the student nations because student parties are only for students who can prove that their are students with a nation card. The good thing is that once you are a member of one nation, you have access to the events of all other nations as well. This means that almost every evening you can attend student parties organised by the student nations, besides the random parties in corridors and kitchens of student houses :) Student nations have long traditions going back with centuries. Some of them are therefore located in historic buildings, with old and beautiful libraries and dining rooms, which interestingly enough, turn into dance floors and bars when the sun comes down.

Uppsala is the host of an annual event called Culture Night that takes place in September. During the day and night of the event you can walk around town and visit any of the over 150 locations that host different cultural events. Many museums and galleries are open until late and anyone can go in free of charge. The streets are filled with music stages, food vendors and many many people who come out to enjoy themselves.  {besps}U5{/besps}
